We awoke at 3:30 one morning and drove up Haleakala mountain hoping to see a sunrise. The road to the Haleakala summit holds the world record for climbing to the highest elevation (10,023 feet) in the shortest distance (38 miles). It took us two hours to creep through the dense fog up the winding road, and at the top it was windy, rainy, cold, and surprisingly crowded. We didn't see a sunrise, but it was quite an adventure! |
