The gardens at Versailles are huge. This is only the central corridor. The thing that looks like a runway in the distance is a rectangular lake, where France's royalty used to float around in Venetian gondolas. It takes an hour to walk from the Palace to the end of this Grand Canal. Off to the right are the Grand and Petit Trianons (mini-palaces), and Marie Antoinette's mini-farm, the Hamlet. To the left are grottoes, more fountains, orchards, gardens, and greenhouses.
