A day trip to San Miguel de Allende

San Miguel is just over an hour from Guanajuato in a really nice, clean, comfortable bus. They give you a snack and a beverage, and provide your choice of movie or music.

San Miguel is extremely picturesque. There is a large community of American retirees living here.

Did I say picturesque?

San Miguel is famous for its Parroquia, or parish church. The original church was built in 1683. (Side view.)

The Gothic facade was added in the 1880's by a local stonemason who copied the design from postcards of European churches. It is especially beautiful lit up at night. (Front view.)
